چکیده

In drug development, non-inferiority tests are often employed to determine the difference between two independent binomial proportions. Many test statistics for non-inferiority are based on the frequentist framework. In this paper, we propose a method for the determination of sample sizes using the index ( ) , , 2 1 0 2 1 X X P ∆ − π > π = τ where 1 X and 2 X denote binomial random variables for trials 1 n and , 2 n and parameters 1 π and , 2 π respectively, and the non-inferiority margin is . 0 0 > ∆ In this paper, we propose a new method of calculation, by which we determine in advance the estimated difference between the posterior proportions and the value to be derived at the end of the test to obtain the necessary sample size. We provide the lists of necessary sample sizes with various assumptions. YOHEI KAWASAKI and HIROSHI YAMADA 196

On sample size determination based on a Bayesian index of superiority for two independent binomial proportions

In clinical study, calculation for sample size is often done using the frequentist framework. However, several methods of calculation using the Bayesian framework have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a method for the determination of sample sizes using the index θ = P ( π1 > π2|X1, X2 ) , where X1 and X2 denote the binomial random variables for trials n1 and n2 and parameters π1 and π2...

Bayesian Sample Size Computing for Estimation of Binomial Proportions using p-tolerance with the Lowest Posterior Loss

This paper is devoted to computing the sample size of binomial distribution with Bayesian approach. The quadratic loss function is considered and three criterions are applied to obtain p-tolerance regions with the lowest posterior loss. These criterions are: average length, average coverage and worst outcome.

Bayesian Sample Size Determination for Joint Modeling of Longitudinal Measurements and Survival Data

A longitudinal study refers to collection of a response variable and possibly some explanatory variables at multiple follow-up times. In many clinical studies with longitudinal measurements, the response variable, for each patient is collected as long as an event of interest, which considered as clinical end point, occurs. Joint modeling of continuous longitudinal measurements and survival time...

Non-Inferiority Tests for One Proportion

Approximate sample size formulas for non-inferiority tests of a single proportion are presented in Chow et al. (2008) page 85. However, only large sample (normal approximation) results are given there. This procedure has the capability for computing power using both the normal approximation and binomial enumeration for all tests. Some sample size programs use only the normal approximation to th...

Unconditional exact tests for the difference of binomial probabilities - contrasted and compared

Various exact tests for showing a di&erence between two treatments or the non-inferiority (therapeutic equivalence) based on the di&erence of two binomial proportions are compared. It is found that a frequently used test has to be applied with great caution due to its numerical instability. Furthermore, a test based on the score statistic can be recommended as a good compromise between a simple...
